However, the stuff they seem to be producing now is subpar for them. I don't know exactly what went on with that company, but the quality isn't there anymore. Alpine seems to be the best for the money. Sure you can get better, but not without spending a lot more money. I have an alpine amp, absolutely love it. It's pushing 4 crappy speakers and still sounds great. The cheapest is probably JVC. I have a head unit from them... love it as well. Most hate them because of their "quality." But my family has been buying them for years, my dad's mercedes sports one, my beetle had one and my Z has the nicest one of them all. 2 1/2 years old, bought it new for $140 with MP3 capabilities.
ANother good company is Cerwin Vega. I had 6x9's in my beetle that sounded amazing with no amp and the 40Watt cd player pushing it. I also have a home Sub, but I blew the internal amp. My dad has the same 6x9's in his Mercedes as well and they sound great there too. When the home unit worked, it pumped harder than any car unit I have ever heard... and it was only a 10" sub. I'm in the market now for the 100watt amp that goes to it. I need to throw some parties in this house. It is way too boring around here.
